Edgeworth Construction Ltd. was incorporated as a General Contractor in 1965. During the initial twenty years of operation the company concentrated on large civil engineering construction projects in British Columbia and Alberta with an emphasis on road building, site preparation and other large volume earth moving contracts. The company maintained a large fleet of heavy construction machinery and completed projects up to a value of $20,000,000.00 CDN.

More recently the company has diversified its operation and expanded its fields of expertise to include contracts involving specialized underground utility systems, sewage treatment plants, industrial concrete buildings and highway bridges.

In 1984 Edgeworth anticipated a declining local market and initiated a quest for offshore work. This effort culminated in prequalifying to tender a number of projects in Africa, the Caribbean and South America. Edgeworth was the successful tenderer on projects in St. Lucia, W.I., Turks and Caicos Islands, W.I. and Guyana, S.A. These projects were a part of the Caribbean Airports Project, sponsored and funded by the Canadian Government. The objective of the program was to improve safety aspects in a variety of airports in the Caribbean region, and the work involved resurfacing runways, upgrading structural components such as control towers and Nav-aid buildings, and modernizing electrical and runway lighting systems.

In September 1992 we completed a contract in the Kingdom of Nepal which included construction of a large airplane maintenance hangar and associated civil, mechanical and electrical components. This project was CIDA funded with major materials sourced from Canada.

Edgeworth Construction International Ltd. was established in 1993 for the purpose of pursuing future off-shore contracts and administering Edgeworth’s international activities.

During 1993 we negotiated an exclusive sales agreement with Tomsk Kamost Timber of Tomsk, Russia to represent their lumber and pole products through the World exclusive of Russia. Sales to Asian, European and Middle East markets resulted in annual lumber sales of 200,000 cubic meters of spruce, cedar, pine and fir lumber and 75,000 treated pine power poles.

During the completion of the airport project in Guyana in 1989, Edgeworth recognized the shortage in availability of quality aggregate products in the country for construction purposes. The Government of Guyana, following a successful relationship with Edgeworth during the 1989 construction contract, agreed to consider a joint operation of their quarry resources. Discussions between Edgeworth and the Government proceeded and in November 1994 Edgeworth Construction International Ltd. completed a three year negotiation period that resulted in the creation of a 50/50 joint venture with the Government of Guyana to manage and operate Government owned granite deposits. Production of high quality aggregates for utilization in asphalt and concrete products plus armour stone for the local Caribbean market commenced in July 1995, which resulted in annual sales of $5,000,000.00 U.S.
