PotashCorp: Enriching at Home and Around the World

Whether farmers are growing rice in China, soybeans in Brazil or corn in the United States, the productivity of their land is commonly linked to PotashCorp’s mining and milling operations in Saskatchewan.

PotashCorp is the world’s foremost supplier of potash, an essential crop nutrient that improves the quantity and quality of crops grown around the world. With the global population growing and many countries gaining economic strength, this is increasingly important to meeting the rising demand for food.

The company’s Saskatchewan facilities are primarily responsible for PotashCorp’s position as a low-cost leader in its industry. Its operations represent 22 percent of world potash capacity, giving it an unmatched ability to serve a stable North American customer base and growing offshore markets.

With 75 percent of the world’s excess potash capacity, PotashCorp has a competitive advantage in meeting future demand growth. Additionally, it has strategic investments in Jordan, Israel, Chile and China that enhance its global position.

PotashCorp is also the world’s fourth-largest nitrogen producer and third-largest phosphate company, with operations in the United States, Trinidad and Brazil.

The company’s vision is to be the partner of choice, providing superior value to all stakeholders, including employees, customers, investors, business partners and the communities in which it operates. PotashCorp links financial performance with areas of extended responsibility that include safety, the environment and all those who have a social or economic interest in its business.

Province-wide Reach

In addition to its corporate headquarters in Saskatoon, the company has operations at Allan, Cory, Lanigan, Patience Lake and Rocanville. In total, it directly employs almost 1,500 people in the province.

PotashCorp also has a significant impact on the manufacturing and service sectors. In 2005, the company’s Saskatchewan production facilities purchased approximately $137 million in goods and services, excluding raw materials and energy, with 72 percent of those purchases from local suppliers. It is currently re-investing almost $500 million in Saskatchewan, increasing opportunities for people, business partners and communities to share in its success.

This also benefits the Government of Saskatchewan, as PotashCorp paid $249 million in royalties and taxes to the province in 2005.

A Community Builder

PotashCorp has made a commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities where its people work and live.

It has been a longstanding supporter of the University of Saskatchewan and, in 2005, announced a $5 million donation to the “Thinking the World of Our Future” campaign. That money will be used to refurbish Griffiths Stadium, enabling Saskatoon to host the 2006 PotashCorp Vanier Cup, the Canadian university football championship. This will be the first time the game will be played in Western Canada.

The company is also actively involved with a wide range of community organizations, including the Saskatoon Zoo, the Western Development Museum and the Saskatoon Pre-School Foundation.
